Case Studies
Client: Logistics Company, Singapore
Location: Logistics Facility in Singapore
Scope: Corporate portraits, interior, industrial and architectural photography
Project Overview
Despite having no prior experience in logistics photography, I was engaged for this project based on my decade-long expertise in industrial photography. Communicating with the client that is based in Europe, required additional required high-quality corporate images of their staff, along with interior and architectural photography—areas where I excel. The challenge is the shoot only can be do on a weekend, I only have four hours to complete it.
Pre-Project Preparation
Understanding the unique aspects of logistics facilities, I did a site walk with the client. I wanted to know who are the people on the ground, to understand how the office and warehouse looks like. I planned the shoot to highlight both the operational workflow and the company’s corporate identity. Given the nature of the environment and the duration of the shoot, I focused on utilizing natural lighting, minimizing the need for bulky equipment, and ensuring an efficient workflow.
On-Site Execution
As a solo photographer, I offered a cost-effective alternative to larger creative agencies while maintaining a high standard of quality. The shoot involved capturing professional portraits of employees in their work environment, highlighting the facility’s infrastructure, and documenting key operational areas.
Since most of the subjects are not models, it’s my job to put them at ease and guide them into a natural, comfortable stance. Photography isn’t just about pressing a button—it requires a keen eye and, more importantly, strong communication skills, something that many don’t realize. If you know, you know.
For interior and architectural shots, I use specialized lenses to correct perspective distortion, ensuring accuracy and visual appeal in the final images.
Post-Production & Delivery
Leveraging my editing skill in corporate, interior, and architectural photography, I delivered a curated set of professionally edited images. The final visuals effectively portrayed the company’s brand identity while meeting the client’s expectations.
Reflections
This project was an exciting opportunity to apply my skills in a new industry. Despite it being my first logistics photography assignment, I successfully delivered compelling visuals that aligned with the client’s vision. This experience reaffirmed my adaptability and ability to produce outstanding results in diverse environments.
Client: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA
Location: Multiple venues across Singapore
Scope: Event photography coverage, professional image editing, and timely delivery of high-resolution and social-media-optimized images.
Project Overview
Capture Asia Photography was engaged by MIT for an alumni event in Singapore. Unlike a typical 4 to 8-hour shoot at a single venue, this unique event featured multiple locations, staggered schedules, and venue transitions over different dates. The complexity required meticulous planning to ensure seamless coverage.
Pre-Event Preparation
As I had never been to the designated venues before, I conducted a recce to assess the interior layout, lighting conditions, and ideal shooting spots. This preparation was crucial for anticipating challenges and ensuring smooth execution on the event day.
On-Site Execution
On the day of the shoot, I arrived 20–30 minutes early to prepare, receive any last-minute updates from the client, and familiarize myself with the venue setup. Since a formal group photo was planned, I proactively scouted a suitable location in advance, ensuring a smooth experience for the client. Each shoot takes place across multiple locations, with different schedules and venue setups. Every brief varies, and the client has specific image requirements, particularly when the MIT President takes the stage for a timely talk. Capturing all these elements accurately is a challenge I enjoy.
I am also highly proactive in engaging my photo subjects, encouraging them to bring energy to the shot—whether it’s a thumbs-up gesture or a great expression. This requires the photographer to set a high-energy tone, which often translates into a lively response from them. Additionally, I make it a point to position subjects in front of banners featuring MIT branding, ensuring a strong visual connection to the event.
Post-Event Workflow
After the event, I curated and professionally edited the images, delivering them by 5 PM the next working day or within 48 hours, depending on workload. Fortunately, the client did not require an urgent turnaround, as they were traveling to another country for their next event.
Reflections
Covering this event was an enriching experience. Engaging with a diverse group of brilliant individuals and working alongside MIT’s highly skilled and quick-thinking team from the U.S. was both inspiring and humbling. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a prestigious event.
I have observed that people increasingly reflect on past events and celebrations, cherishing these photographs as valuable memories to look back on. Over time, these images become more than just event coverage—they transform into significant milestones.
This reinforces the importance of hiring the right photographer to document an event with care and precision. Understanding this, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to capture every event to the best of my ability, ensuring that each moment is preserved for years to come.
